Why download Instagram videos

How Instagram serves videos and how we fetch them
Instagram stores videos as MP4 files on their CDN. When you view a video in the app, Instagram's player streams the file. When you save through the app, Instagram serves a version with their overlay (username + share UI). Our tool skips the overlay step — fetches the original MP4 directly from Instagram's CDN. Same file the original creator uploaded, no recompression, no overlay. For Reels, the same process works. Some Reels use HLS streaming (multiple quality variants); we pick the highest quality available and download segments in parallel.
Privacy and how we handle your data
We don't log Instagram URLs. We don't store videos. We don't require account creation. When you paste a URL, we fetch the video via Instagram's public CDN and stream it back to your browser. The video never lands on our disk. If you're downloading your own content, your account is unaffected. Instagram can't detect downloads through public share URLs.
Does this work on private Instagram accounts?
No — private accounts require login to access. We only support public posts and Reels. Make the account public temporarily, or use Instagram's official Save feature for private content.
Does it work on Instagram Stories?
No — Stories are designed to disappear after 24 hours and require authentication. Use Instagram's built-in save feature for Stories you want to keep.
Why is the audio silent on some downloads?
Same TikTok issue: Instagram licenses music for in-app playback only. Reels with popular commercial music may download silent. Reels with original audio download with sound.
